Jim and Johnny met in ’91 at Jim’s spot, ST Bar. Johnny was kicking around NYC working here and there from La Jumelle to 44 to Fez and a bunch in between. Then Jim opened Den of Thieves. Johnny opened Torch, which Jim built (that’s another story). Then came Idlewild. Torch burned down (you heard right), Johnny went to LA doing this and that with some acting in between. Meanwhile, Jim did a one man show and opened White Rabbit. Then the old M&R Bar space came up for sale, which Jim found on craigslist, called Johnny who came back to NYC and they opened Jo’s (named after Johnny’s mom. She’s the cute girl on the postcard and inside the matchbook), Memorial Day Weekend ’09. So what is Jo’s? A Southeast Asian restaurant featuring two intimate dining rooms hidden behind a 40 seat bar room. The main dining room accommodates 40 guests and The Albert Room (which used to be M&R's garden) named for the restaurant Jim's dad owned in The Hotel Albert, accommodates another 44 guests. Romantic & sexy for a date and fun for a group of friends. A fresh seasonal menu (local & organic when possible), great wine list with a 1x mark up, inventive cocktails and a daily-changing "chalkboard menu" in the bar room. Jo's is your destination neighborhood restaurant.
